Parley for the Oceans is a See Change Partner

Parley for the Oceans brings together like-minded artists, scientists, designers, innovators, brands, companies, organizations, and environmentalists to find new ways to create, live, and think on our ever-so-fragile and finite blue Earth. As an environmental organization and global collaboration network, Parley aims to raise awareness, inspire, and empower diverse groups. With the help of this network, Parley for the Oceans can catalyze lasting change through projects and events centered around the environment.

Parley for the Oceans has a partnership with Adidas to create eco-innovative footwear and apparel. Parley’s A.I.R (avoid, intercept, and redesign) campaign has surged an environmental movement through sports. Adidas x Parley offered just a glimpse of what’s next for the movement using reclaimed marine plastic waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets to make their prototype shoe. In 2017, Adidas produced 1 million pairs of shoes made out of Parley Ocean Plastic®. In 2020, Adidas produced a whopping 15 million pairs of the shoes. This wearable statement has forged new conversations about climate conservation. Parley for the Oceans is truly innovative, generating new questions and ideas to initiate even more change.

One of the other issues Parley for the Oceans has taken on is plastic consumption. According to Parley, an estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic trash end up in our oceans each year. If we continue our overconsumption of single-use plastics, we risk losing valuable diversity in our seas and disrupting the entire ecosystem. These next ten years are pivotal for our future, according to Parley for the Oceans. Continuing on our current path, it is expected that commercial fisheries will collapse by 2048. And, by 2050, 90% of coral reefs will be gone.

Parley for the Oceans is the perfect partnership for a climate conference. At the inaugural See Change Sessions, Parley will address intersectional environmentalism. Intersectional environmentalism is an idea that examines not only protection for the environment, but also justice for marginalized communities. Intersectional environmentalism highlights the injustices that are happening to the most vulnerable communities and the Earth to show how interconnected everything is. To learn more about intersectional environmentalism and how Parley for the Oceans is working to create a better world, purchase your tickets to See Change Sessions: ON SNW, coming this March 24th and 25th, 2021.
